Diaper making fun!

As any who knows me knows, I like to keep busy.

During the winter months, I spent my 'free' time teaching myself how to knit. Once the weather began to warm up though, the desire to spend time with wool seemed to drift and I found myself seeking something else to do. Something different from making pad after pad. Not that I don't like making pads, I do! But it's business, and I need something seperate to do simply for pleasure.

I've always wanted to make some cloth diapers, but I've had no good reason to. Well I decided I wanted to make a diaper for a good friend of mine. She's pregnant, and she cloth diapers, AND she likes horses like I do, so I thought what better time to have some fun learning how to make diapers!?

So I've been spending my spare time teaching myself how to make a newborn diaper, and here is the end result.

Outer layer of Heather Ross's West Hill horse fabric. Center snap down front for the tender belly button area. Two rows of snaps for better fit.

I love how the backside turned out! So poofy! I wanted to just hold it, cradle it and pat it. lol

I used all bamboo fabrics for the inner and hidden layers. Bamboo fleece for the hidden diaper layer, and bamboo terry for the soaker layers. Bamboo velour for the top of the soaker layers and the inner layer of the diaper.

Now hopefully I can get it to my friend before she has her baby!

I've got two more side snapping diapers cut out. Why? I really don't know. LOL

I guess if I never get to use them myself, my grandbabies will be well suited up by the time they arrive! But for now, I'm going to keep going with it while the mood strikes me.

WOW-that is gorgeous!!! I love it-and love the fabric, too! I haven't tried the belly button thing yet-maybe I'll try this. Did you use a pattern or make it up? I am very impressed, Pietra! Holly

Hi Pietra-thanks for being excited with us about Kasey! I knew you would.
I totally agree with you about horses that have been handled a lot. The reason why I am so impressed w/ Kasey is because he hasn't been handled much. He was shuffled around b/w owners due to domestic abuse w/ first set of owners, then divorce w/ second set of owners, and then the man we bought him from didn't know anything about horses-bought him before he turned 2 & just kept him at a friend's house for the last year & didn't do anything with him. He actually bought him to help out the woman he knew who got divorced.
He's even spent months in a stall without being turned out.
I'm very thankful he's never been mistreated, though. I'm also glad he hasn't been trained yet as we want to do it a certain way-no breaking here-only starting-and that slowly. The people who have boarded him the last year have been kind to him, but only turned him out every day & didn't have time to do anything with him. He was very attached to a draft horse there & I felt bad taking him away from his friend.
So, he was kind of an unknown as far as his temperament-and we were taking him on trial basis to get an idea of how he'd be. Of course, the mother in me wants to be sure that my children will be safe-that's the most important thing. He is passing with flying colors! I'll get a full body pic of him soon to post.
I love paints, too-your Raiah has such beautiful markings! Hannah admires her pictures every time I show her. She'd love a paint and a buckskin someday. And, she greatly admires the fact that you adopted some rescue horses. She found out about a rescue place near us from a friend of hers, but we can't get any more right now. One of the girls in her 4-H group has a Chincoteague pony that her family adopted during one of the yearly round-ups. He is adorable & a very nice little guy, too.
Love, Holly
