While the kids are away, the parents will....... work.

The kids are away this weekend. They have been spending a weekend with my parents about every 6-8 weeks since about September, which is good because I think my parents are finally realising they need to enjoy the time they have with the kids before we move.

So I'm trying to get some extra work done around here. You'd think weekends without the kids would be 'relaxing' but it means we do all the animal chores, so early mornings or they don't all get fed on time. Of course normally each kid does one chore, now, we do 5 plus our own. lol

So I got about 5.5 hours of sleep after working till 1am and then not being able to sleep for a while and then having to get up early. Oh well.

This morning I got up, fed the animals, took my dog for a walk around the property, checked out the load of wood that got dropped off early this morning and then went in to have my own breakfast.

Once that was done I went out and did some more sewing in the cabin and watched/listened to a Little House dvd while I worked. Once 2:00 rolled around, I took Jasper (lap dog) for another walk around and went to feed the horses their snack (they get feed/pellets/corn/oats etc. and hay twice a day, then just hay as a snack once a day)

While they munched on their hay, I brushed my horse and Julia's pony. I hate this time of year when they are shedding and there's mud. Their hair is caked in it and trying to brush it all out is almost pointless, yet you have to try. Then they just go and roll on the wet ground again. Silly beasts. After that, I was covered in horse hair and dirt. I came in to feed Jasper and grab a bite for myself and have a coffee break. Just about done my coffee now and I'm going to go hop in the shower before I dare head back into the cabin. I still feel grungy.

Tonight it will probably be more work and hopefully a little one on one time with dh.

I think I'll be doing more work again tomorrow. fun fun.

Exciting weekend eh?

I know what you mean. When the kids are gone, there's more work to do. Our horses are full of mud, too. The palomino looks like a paint. He is such a pigpen.
About the pond-we didn't introduce anything to it. The frogs seemed to appear out of nowhere! This year we have seen more ducks than last year & the heron was a first-that we know of.
We hope to put fish in there at some point, but last year we had a slow leak on one side. So, this year, we want to make sure it resolved itself-or else add more clay soil to the in sides of the pond to help seal it up.
Have a great day! Holly
